Where do I find recipes for the baking challenges?
- We understand it can be tricky to know which recipes to trust online as there are just so so many out there, and with some unusual bakes cropping up in some of our baking challenges we wanted to be able to provide you with trusted links!
- As I have completed the baking challenges myself (putting my home baker money where my mouth is) I’ve trialled lots of recipes to weed out some of the ones that haven’t worked as well and have curated a list of the best of each recipe I used.
- You can head over to our recipes page to use our virtual posters that have links to all the suggested recipes I used tagged to the image of each bake.
- We’re adding a QR code sticker into the boxes of our posters so that bakers have the recipe link to hand. If you’ve already taking part in one of our challenges and wish to print out the QR code to have it near your poster for handy reference, you can view and save it here: QR Code for Recipes
Are all of the bakes suitable for vegetarians?
- All of the bakes can be made suitable for vegetarians.
- There are a few bakes such as sausage rolls and marshmallows which will require vegetarian alternatives for one of the ingredients, but there is nothing stopping a vegetarian baker taking on any of our baking challenges!
Am I able to take part if I’m making vegan or gluten free recipes?
- Absolutely! I’ve been following a few fellow home bakers on social media who are taking part in our baking challenges and making them their own by adjusting the recipes to suit an allergy or intolerance.
- Whilst I haven’t curated a list of recipes for gluten free or vegan bakes just yet, I have been trialling both for some bakes so watch this space for the future!
What equipment do I need?
- When it comes to baking essentials, there isn’t a huge amount that you need. Many of our recipes will need what you’ll hopefully already have in your kitchen, baking trays, mixing bowls, measuring jug/spoons, and you’ll be able to make traybakes and loaves in a square baking tin and 2lb baking tin.
- For some of the specialist bakes, such as a Battenberg, you can get a bespoke tin, or you can make your own with a little bit of tin foil. Head over to the Blog page to see how!
Are there any tutorials to follow?
- I’ve been creating a series of quick tutorials on social media these include how to marble fondant, how to make stuffed cookies and how to make peanut butter cups.
- You can see these on Instagram here: @crumbsbycollette
Can I send a baking challenge as a gift?
- Of course! Giving the gift of baking (and being there to be able to sample all of the baked goodies from your loved ones) is such a joy!
- You can use the comments box in your order to let us know if it’s a gift and we can hand write out a note to let your recipient know that it’s a gift just from you.
